white gold onyx ring
What stone could this be?
I bought a ring at a little Knick-Knack Antique Store in Indiana back in the summer, and I have just now gotten around to getting it looked at. It is a 10K white gold ring, and it has a dark circular stone in the middle with white sapphires around it and two more rectangular ones on the sides. It is a beautiful ring! I didnt think it would be worth much because it only cost $25! But the girl at this independent jeweler said she couldnt decide what kind of stone it was. She said it was definitely genuine because she could see imperfections but she couldnt tell if it was onyx or something else. She said with this stone you can see through it (unlike onyx) but it was so dark which would be unusual for a sapphire. Any ideas on what kind of stone this is?? Or how much this ring could possibly be worth?
You need to take the ring to a certified jeweler;the person you took the ring to does not sound trained in the art of jewel-making since she could not help you.
The ring is only 10K white gold;more expensive estate jewelry would be platinum,14K,18K,or 24K.
The quality of the stones also needs to be considered--just explaining what the ring looks like isn't enough.The stones have to be examined with the jeweler's special eyepiece to determine worth.
