okay im looking for a hip-hop style chain. i was looking this site http://www.theblingking.co.uk/
and ones like that
its exactly what im looking for but the thing that bothers me is that everything i SO cheap
They claim the items i was looking at are "gold plated" and "gold filled" which is okay since im only 14 and cant afford real gold.
But the only explanation i can think of for them beinf so cheap is that the metal inside is really really cheap. i dont mind that either as long as its strong.
but im wondering will these break easily? and also i guess the gold plates are really thin...how long would u expect them to last without braking or fading?
BEWARE, THE JEWELRY MARKET IS FLOODED WITH CHEAP IMITATIONS AND POOR QUALITY "GOLD" JEWELERY!
Some "Gold Plate" is so thin that it will wear off the first time you wear it or wash it!
"Rolled Gold", if it is really that, should be a certain quality Gold (and should be stated as Ex.: 18K or such), and thickness on a SILVER (Eg: Ag) base and by todays standard of a quality of Sterling (Eg. 925/1000 Silver)
The piece should be marked "925" and the gold content, Eg. thickness!
You are correct! Your assumption that "too cheap" usually means something is wrong!
There is a daily, international market fluctuation on both Gold and Silver, and any jewelry under those prices (if new) is probably not what they say it is.
You should buy from a reputable Internet dealer, and all jewelry should be clearly stamped! AND, the seller should be willing to disclose all details of the metal(s) if you write to them.
If you search www.ebay.com (USA) only you will save a lot on Postages, and even Customs charges!
My Suggestion: Do not buy from sellers WITH LESS THAN 99% POSITIVE FEEDBACK, and AT LEAST 500 feedbacks to their name.
